Suspicious Tent and Travel Cot Found in Brighton Park
Sussex Police have issued a fresh update on the mystery of a tent and travel cot spotted in Queens Park, Brighton. Initial fears that a young couple and toddler were sleeping rough in the park may have been premature, police now say.
Concern Grows Over Toddler’s Safety
Last Thursday, a passerby raised alarm after spotting a young woman with a child and a man — described as late teens to early 20s — possibly bedding down in the park. The child, thought to be around 18 months old, prompted serious welfare concerns.
Police Keep Searching to Ensure Family’s Safety
Sussex Police revealed: “New info suggests the family were just frequenting the site and may not have been spending nights there.” But the search isn’t over. Officers are still trying to contact the trio to make sure they’re safe and well.
Detective Superintendent Kris Ottery said, “This report was very concerning. We have treated it with incredible seriousness and utmost importance.”
He urged the couple to get in touch with police directly.
Huge Search Operation Underway
Over five days, police teams scoured Brighton, using drones and the National Police Air Service helicopter to comb the city. Local residents joined in the hunt, providing vital support.
Det Supt Ottery added, “Safeguarding is at the heart of our investigation. We’re working closely with partner agencies nationwide, including the National Crime Agency, other police forces, and homeless outreach services to locate the family.”
