Mass Disturbance in Brixton: 200+ Crowd Forces Major Police Crackdown
More than 200 people gathered at a venue on Coldharbour Lane, Brixton on Saturday night (28 June), sparking major disruption and a swift heavy-handed police response.
Chaos Hits Coldharbour Lane
Police were called at 9.37pm following reports of antisocial behaviour and disturbance. To regain control, officers slapped a Section 35 dispersal order on the area, demanding the crowd disperse or face arrest.
Officers Attacked During Crowd Dispersal
Tensions boiled over as two Metropolitan Police officers were assaulted while breaking up the crowd. Both suffered minor injuries in the scuffle.
- A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.
- A 15-year-old boy faces multiple charges including assaulting an emergency worker, public order offences, and breaching the dispersal order.
Both remain in police custody as investigations continue.
Dispersal Order Kept Overnight to Restore Calm
The dispersal order stayed in place until 7am Sunday, 29 June, allowing officers to keep a lid on the situation and prevent further trouble.
“The safety of the public and our officers is our priority. We took necessary action to prevent further escalation and are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident,” said a Metropolitan Police spokesperson.
