Driver drags cop after hitting pedestrian outside nightclub

Chaos on Mansfield high street

Ian Stone sparked chaos when he ran over a pedestrian’s foot outside a busy Mansfield nightclub on Clumber Street. The victim fell in pain after being clipped while stepping off the kerb in the early hours of 29 May 2022.

A group of police officers just yards away witnessed the crash. One gave chase as Stone’s car waited at a red light, ordering him to stop. When Stone ignored the order, the officer grabbed the keys through the open window.

Cop dragged, injured as driver speeds off

The lights turned green and Stone revved the engine — dragging the officer alongside the car and throwing them to the ground. The officer needed medical treatment for injuries sustained in the ordeal.

Stone then sped away, continuing his reckless drive.

Crash ends wild ride

Minutes later on Woodhouse Road, Mansfield Woodhouse, Stone lost control. He swerved wildly, mounted the kerb, and smashed into a tree and wall. The 24-year-old suffered a large gash to his forehead, and his car was badly damaged.

Justice served — jail and driving ban for Stone

  • Charged with dangerous driving, assault causing actual bodily harm, failing to provide a specimen, and driving uninsured
  • Pleaded guilty at Nottingham Crown Court
  • Sentenced to 18 months in jail
  • Banned from driving for three years with an extended test to follow

Stone lives on Priory Road, Alfreton.

Sergeant Hannah Meadows of Nottinghamshire Police said: “The standard of driving demonstrated by Stone that morning was both incredibly dangerous and reckless in the extreme. “By driving away at speed following his initial collision, he put a police officer’s safety in genuine danger. “It is down to sheer luck alone that the officer only suffered minor injuries, and that nobody else was seriously hurt because of his actions. “There is absolutely no place on our roads for this blatant disregard for the law, so I’m pleased to see Stone has now been made accountable for his behaviour.”
