Four Men Arrested After Brutal Burglary Sparks Rooftop Standoff in Gillingham
Four suspects were snapped up after a violent burglary in Gillingham exploded into a high-speed police chase and ended with a tense rooftop standoff in London.
Violent Burglary on Balmoral Road
The drama kicked off at around 9pm on Thursday, January 2, when Kent Police responded to reports of men trying to force their way into a property on Balmoral Road. Two occupants were attacked during the break-in and later rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police Chase Ends in London Rooftop Showdown
As officers launched an investigation, two of the suspects fled the scene. They were spotted by Metropolitan Police on Brightfield Road, Lee, about 20 minutes later, sparking a police pursuit. The suspects ditched their vehicle and scrambled onto a rooftop in Hedgley Street, refusing to come down.
Emergency services, including police and firefighters, converged on the scene. Officers negotiated with the men to safely bring them down for arrest.
Kent Police Confirm Arrests
Kent Police was called at 9pm to reports of attempted forced entry on Balmoral Road, Gillingham. Two occupants said they were assaulted and treated for injuries not believed to be life-threatening. An investigation followed, and four men, aged 19 to 28, were arrested after a vehicle pursuit in London. They remain in custody,” a Kent Police spokesperson said.
Police have not confirmed if any stolen items were recovered. The investigation remains ongoing.
