Sussex Cops Snatch £30k Stolen Pokémon Card in Lightning Probe
Sussex Police have cracked a high-stakes Pokémon card heist in record time, recovering a rare Charizard valued between £20,000 and £30,000. The prized card was stolen in Heathfield but now safely returned to its rightful owner in Essex.
The Heist and The Hunt
The drama kicked off on 21 October when a Pokémon card grading firm in Heathfield reported the theft. The company had just sent the ultra-rare Charizard card back to its owner after assessing its condition and value—only for it to vanish en route. Suspicion mounted when the stolen card popped up for sale on Facebook.
Quick Work by Sussex Police
The Initial Investigation Team swung into action immediately. Tracking the card’s trail, they zeroed in on a 23-year-old man from Polegate. Police arrested him at his home on 27 October on suspicion of theft. A search of his property uncovered the missing card.
The suspect confessed during a voluntary interview and showed genuine remorse. He received a caution, and the rare Charizard was handed back to a grateful owner.

PC Alan Russell, who led the inquiry, praised his team’s rapid response:
“We identified a line of enquiry quickly and were able to act decisively. It was a valuable item, cherished by the victim, who is relieved to have it back. Our teams collaborated efficiently to solve this case.”
