Elderly Woman Assaulted in Sheffield Park
Police rushed to Firth Park, Sheffield, on Sunday, 4 December 2022, after reports that a woman in her 80s had been attacked. The disturbing incident involved a man who reportedly assaulted the elderly woman and tried to sexually assault her.
Suspect Arrested After Shocking Attack
The attacker fled the scene, leaving the victim with minor injuries. She was taken to hospital but has since been discharged. A 23-year-old man was arrested later that night on suspicion of attempted rape and grievous bodily harm (section 18 assault). He remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Detective Chief Inspector Eleanor Welsh, leading the probe, said:
“This was a horrid attack on an elderly woman who was simply in a park. Detectives have been following up a number of lines of enquiry ever since we were called.”
Welsh urged the public to come forward with any information, saying:
“I understand this is an alarming incident to our communities. Although we have made an arrest, we’re still asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything to help us with our ongoing investigation.”
