Darren Osment Found Guilty of Murdering Partner Claire
Claire, 32, disappeared after leaving Seamus O’Donnell’s pub in Bristol on the evening of 6 June 2012. Her body has never been found. Eleven years on, Darren Osment, from Patchway, has been convicted of her murder.
Multiple Confessions Seal Osment’s Fate
After an 11-week trial, a jury delivered a majority verdict against Osment. He confessed multiple times, including to an undercover police officer. In a chilling 2019 999 call, Osment said, “I’m handing myself in…not a good look for me, it’s murder…I took the law into my own hands.”
When police arrested him, Osment admitted, “I had her killed…I just want to get it off my back…What will be, will be.”
Massive Police Hunt Ends in Conviction
Claire was reported missing on 14 June 2012, sparking a huge police investigation. Officers scoured CCTV, searched underwater, knocked on doors, and analysed financial and phone records. Over 120 witnesses were interviewed.
“I’m in no doubt, Darren Osment is a danger to society, and our communities are safer with him behind bars,” said Det Supt Hannant.
He praised the investigation team, including undercover officers who risked their safety to gather key evidence.
Family’s Pain and The Fight for Justice
Det Supt Hannant acknowledged the emotional toll on Claire’s loved ones: “They are always in our thoughts. The strength they have shown is admirable.”
The police hope Helen’s Law will apply, meaning Osment’s refusal to reveal Claire’s body location could hinder parole chances.
Ben Samples, Senior District Crown Prosecutor, said:
“This was a heinous crime. Claire’s family have suffered over a decade while Osment lied and refused to help find her body.”
“Murder trials without a body are tough. We had to think outside the box to prove Osment’s guilt.”
“Justice won’t bring Claire back, but it may offer some comfort to her grieving family.”
