Car theft spree ends with six charges for man caught in Hastings

Man nabbed in early morning raid

Police swooped on South Terrace, Hastings, just after 1.30am on Wednesday, September 30, after reports raised concerns about a man spotted in a suspicious car.

Stolen car and bank cards found

Officers quickly uncovered the vehicle had been stolen from a home on Montague Way, Westham, earlier that night. They also found bank cards believed to be stolen.

Links to multiple attempted burglaries

Further investigations revealed several attempted break-ins at nearby properties, hinting at a wider crime spree across the area.

Charged with six offences

Lee Compton, 35, unemployed and from Roundhill Road, Brighton, was arrested and slapped with six charges:

  • Burglary and theft
  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Attempted burglary with intent to steal
  • Driving without a valid licence
  • Driving without third party insurance
  • Fraud by false representation

He appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on October 1 and was remanded in custody.
