Officers rushed to a beach close to Wellington Pier at around 1.30am on Wednesday (4 May 2022) after a fisherman stumbled upon a grisly find – a body part.

Police Confirm Identity Following Forensic Tests

The remains were taken to James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston. A Home Office post-mortem and DNA tests have since identified the victim as 53-year-old Colin Wood.

Mr Wood’s family have been informed, but the full coroner’s proceedings are still pending.

Unexplained Death Sparks Major Police Investigation

Detective Chief Inspector Holly Evans, leading the probe, revealed the circumstances of Mr Wood’s death remain a mystery.

“We want to know how Mr Wood came to be in the water. Anyone who knew him or has information is urged to come forward,” DCI Evans said.

“Mr Wood lived in Great Yarmouth but had limited contact with friends and family recently. A photo has been released to jog memories.”
