Brutal Barking Rape Case Ends with 10-Year Jail Term

A violent attacker who left a woman fighting for her life in a terrifying October 2022 assault in Barking has been locked up for a decade. The victim has since received expert support from a specialised sexual offences team.

Harrowing Attack Behind Longbridge Road Shops

In the early hours of 15 October 2022, the victim bravely called police to report she had been raped and her attacker had fled. Officers rushed to the scene and quickly began gathering crucial evidence while supporting the survivor.

The woman told police a man had attacked her in an alleyway behind shops on Longbridge Road. She described a sustained and brutal assault, including being strangled until she slipped in and out of consciousness.

Detective Sergeant Charlie Yexley said, “This was a horrendous attack. I have the utmost respect for the victim-survivor, who has shown incredible strength facing this trauma.”

“Her courage throughout the trial has been remarkable. It’s justice that a jury saw the attacker for what he really is.”

Known Offender Caught and Jailed

Forensic experts identified the suspect as 28-year-old Daniel Jordan through DNA analysis. Police arrested him at his Dagenham home on 22 October 2022. He was quickly charged and remanded.

Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford said, “This was a vicious attack on a vulnerable woman. Thanks to the dedication of the investigating officers and Sexual Offences Investigative Technician, the victim’s needs were always prioritised.”

“The impact of their work is immense.”

Justice Delivered at Snaresbrook Crown Court

After a trial ending on 15 January 2024, Jordan was found guilty of rape, non-fatal strangulation, and assault. On 15 March, he was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court to 10 years in prison plus an extended five-year license period. He also received a concurrent 30-month sentence for the strangulation and assault offences.

Jordan will remain on the sex offenders’ register for life, ensuring he is closely monitored after release.
