Daring River Rescue: Police Sergeant Saves Man from Death in South Yorkshire River
Man Struggles Face Down in Raging River Don
South Yorkshire Police got a chilling call on Friday, 6 August at 1pm. A 75-year-old man was spotted face down, pulled swiftly by the current of the River Don. Passers-by tried but failed to haul him to safety.
Quick-Thinking Officers Dive In
Sergeant Michael Patton sprang into action, co-ordinating with the ambulance service. Then Sergeant Guss Hudson plunged into the cold, fast-flowing river. Fighting the current, Hudson grabbed the struggling man and dragged him to the riverbank. Paramedics rushed him to hospital.
Bravery Praised as Man Recovers
South Yorkshire Police hailed the officers’ courage: “Our team face danger daily and never know what they’ll find. They’re trained to save lives, but sometimes go above and beyond like Sergeant Hudson did at 1pm.”
Superintendent Neil Thomas said, “I have no doubt Sergeant Hudson saved this man’s life, risking his own without hesitation. Many such rescues don’t end well, but thanks to their bravery and quick thinking, this story has a happy ending.”
The rescued man is now recovering in hospital. A true testament to guts and heroism in the heart of South Yorkshire.
