Crime Wave Hits Canterbury and Surrounds: Cars, Vans, and Coaches Raided
Between 10 and 16 October 2022, a string of vehicle break-ins rattled Canterbury Road, Claremont Road, Moorhall Avenue, plus Marine Parade in Hythe and Farthing Common in Lyminge.
Thieves Smash Windows, Swipe Cash, Tools and More
Multiple vehicles were targeted, including cars, a van, and even a coach. In one brazen smash-and-grab, a car window was smashed and a bag with bank cards and cash stolen. Another incident saw tools nicked from a van, while keys and cash were taken from a coach. Over in Lyminge, a camera was snatched from a vehicle.
Police Urge Vigilance as Opportunistic Thieves Strike
Sergeant Sheena Maclean-Bell from Folkestone’s Community Safety Unit said: “We believe these are opportunistic thieves who would be prepared to break into a car and steal anything available. This can be loose change or very expensive valuables including tools, so we are urging everyone to be vigilant and make sure nothing is left on display and that cars are locked.”
She added, “While we investigate this recent spike, please report anything suspicious to kent-police/" title="Kent Police" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Kent Police immediately and consider installing CCTV. It can really help catch the culprits.”

- Never leave valuables on display, no matter how small
- Take laptops, satnavs, and other valuables with you
- Wipe away satnav suction marks from windscreens or dashboards
- Remove your car stereo if possible
- Never leave your keys in the ignition
- Use an immobiliser or steering lock, especially on older vehicles
- Park in garages, secure car parks or well-lit areas where possible
- Don’t leave car keys visible from outside your home
