Eastbourne’s Night Safety Marshals Step Up Crime Fight
Eastbourne is turning up the heat on nighttime trouble with its new Night Safety Marshals. Launched earlier this year, this team works hand-in-hand with the police and local partners to keep the town safe after dark.
Over 100 People Helped in Just Months
Since January, the Marshals have assisted more than 70 women and 30 men caught in vulnerable spots. Whether reuniting them with family and friends, getting police help, or arranging safe trips home, their impact is clear.
They’ve also nipped over 15 public disorder incidents in the bud, helping reduce crime linked to Eastbourne’s bustling night-time economy, especially at weekends.
Round-the-Clock Patrols on Weekends
Operating from 8pm to 4am on Fridays and Saturdays, the Marshals patrol key hotspots, check in at clubs and bars, and offer vital support to locals. They team up with police, Street Pastors, security staff, and the Business Crime Reduction Partnership to keep trouble at bay.
Police Praise New Team
Inspector Sarah Taylor, Eastbourne Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Protecting our community from violence and crime, particularly during the night-time economy, is a key priority for police. Everyone has the right to enjoy a night out and Eastbourne is, and will continue to be, a safe place to do this.”
“We already have measures like dedicated patrol cars, targeted policing, and schemes such as Ask for Angela. The Night Safety Marshals are a very welcome addition, helping us protect vulnerable people and catch offenders.”
If you or someone you know needs help on a night out, speak to a police officer, bar staff, Night Safety Marshal, or call 999 immediately.
