Hero Police Dog Sniffs Out Loaded Gun Hidden on London Roof
One of the Met’s four-legged heroes sprang into action on Monday, 13 July, helping officers find a hidden loaded revolver — now safely off the streets.
Cocker Spaniel Eddie Leads the Charge
Eight-year-old cocker spaniel PD Eddie and his handler, PC Emma Robling, were called to Chelsea Gardens on Chelsea Bridge Road after officers discovered ammunition hidden on a communal roof.
This tip-off came during an intelligence-led probe under Operation Viper, part of Specialist Crime South, which hinted a deadly weapon was stashed nearby. With no time to lose, PD Eddie was unleashed to track the firearm.
Quick Sniff, Fast Find
After just 15 minutes, Eddie’s keen nose zeroed in on a secluded rooftop spot. A swift search by PC Robling uncovered a silver revolver — loaded and ready for action.
Thanks to PD Eddie’s sharp instincts and the detectives’ persistence, a dangerous weapon has been taken off London’s streets.
The Hunt Goes On
No arrests have been made yet, as detectives continue piecing together who hid the gun and ammunition.
“Eddie is a wonderful dog to work with and I am thrilled he was able to track down this incredibly dangerous weapon,” said PC Emma Robling. “If it wasn’t for his nose, there is every chance it could still be hidden away. We all have a vital role in fighting violent crime across the capital, including our police dogs. Every day, police dogs support frontline colleagues in tackling violence head on and yesterday’s seizure is extremely welcomed – well done Eddie!”
