Essex Police Crack Down Hard on Park Rulebreakers
Essex Police have slammed the brakes on so-called “Covidiots” in Southend’s parks today. Groups caught playing football, using skate parks, sunbathing, and having picnics were swiftly sent packing.
Skate Park Chaos in Chalkwell
PCSO Steve Hollands reported: “I asked four adults to leave the skate park in Chalkwell Park. Two others were sunbathing nearby.” Worse still, tape closing the skate park’s entrance had been ripped down.
“These places are closed to stop the spread of Covid-19,” he stressed. “Don’t meet up with anyone who doesn’t live in your household.”
Exercise Allowed – But Gatherings Are Not!
While exercise is vital for both physical and mental health, the government only permits leaving your home once a day for this purpose.
Gatherings of more than two in parks or public spaces remain strictly banned.
Warnings Before Fines
Essex Police confirmed they will try to reason with offenders first. “We explain why they should change their behaviour to protect public health and safety,” said a spokesperson.
“Issuing fines will always be a last resort.”
