Hero Firefighter in Critical Condition After Edinburgh Blaze

On Monday, 23 January 2023, chaos broke out on Rose Street, Edinburgh, when a fierce fire erupted at a local business around 11.35 a.m.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service teamed up with police to tackle the blaze, which is now fully extinguished. Authorities confirmed there is no longer any danger to the public.

Five Firefighters Hurt, One in Critical Condition

Five brave firefighters were rushed to Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary for treatment. Among them, 38-year-old Barry Martin from Fife remains in critical condition with serious injuries sustained during the fight.

A police officer was also hospitalised for smoke inhalation but has since been released.

Scene Still Active, Area Locked Down

Emergency crews are still on site. The east end of Rose Street—between South St David Street and Rose Street Lane North—remains closed. Two nearby shops have also been forced to shut their doors.

Officials continue their investigation as the community reels from the shocking blaze.
