Firefighters rushed to George Lane in South Woodford after the roof of a shop, with flats above, came crashing down during renovations.
Quick Escape and Precautionary Evacuations
The roof collapsed onto the building’s first floor. Two people managed to flee before the fire brigade arrived. Fire crews then evacuated 11 residents from neighbouring properties as a safety measure.
No Injuries but Shock Treatment Administered
Thankfully, no injuries were reported. However, one woman was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service for shock.
Rescue Teams and Safety Measures on Site
“The roof of the building collapsed into the first floor,” said Station Commander Shaun Fox. “Our Urban Search and Rescue crews were on scene and a 25m cordon was put in place as a precaution.”
“A police search dog carried out an external search of the building and we are satisfied that there were no people in the building.”
