Five Arrested in Major UK Terror Plot Probe

The Met’s Counter Terrorism Command has swooped, arresting five Iranian nationals across the UK on suspicion of plotting a terrorist act. The pre-planned raids took place on Saturday, 3 May, hitting Swindon, London, Stockport, Rochdale, and Manchester.

  • 29-year-old man in Swindon
  • 46-year-old man in West London
  • 29-year-old man in Stockport
  • 40-year-old man in Rochdale
  • 24-year-old man in Manchester

All five were arrested under suspicion of preparing a terrorist act, with four detained under the Terrorism Act 2006 (TACT) and one under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE).

Ongoing Investigation and Developments

On Monday, 5 May, police secured warrants to extend detention for four suspects until Saturday, 10 May. The fifth man was released on bail with strict conditions. Officers are searching multiple properties across Greater Manchester, London, and Swindon as the investigation intensifies.

Met Commander’s Warning

Commander Dominic Murphy, head of Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said: “Our officers are progressing a significant and highly complex investigation, with public safety our absolute priority.”

He revealed police believe a specific location was targeted but kept details under wraps for operational security. Murphy urged the public: “Please do not speculate or share unverified information. We are at an early stage and pursuing all lines of enquiry, including motive and any further risks.”
