Four Arrested in Worthing Moped Crime Bust

Four suspects, including three teens and a woman, have been arrested following a dramatic police operation targeting stolen mopeds and moped-related crime in Worthing.

High-Speed Chase Ends with Arrests

The saga kicked off just before 6pm on Monday, 21 July, when police were alerted to two mopeds racing along the busy A259. The National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter helped officers track down the abandoned vehicles in Markwick Mews.

Three teenage boys and a woman were spotted fleeing the scene but were quickly nabbed nearby.

Teens and Woman Held Over Theft and Drugs

  • Two 15-year-old boys from Worthing and a 16-year-old from Shoreham-by-Sea face charges of theft and possession with intent to supply class B drugs.
  • A 46-year-old Worthing woman was also arrested for assisting an offender and drug possession.

Police uncovered a large haul of cannabis and suspected stolen goods during a search of a related address.

All four suspects have been released on bail as investigations continue.

Crackdown on Moped-Enabled Handbag Thefts

The arrests are part of a bigger police drive tackling a recent spike in moped-enabled crimes, including handbag snatchings across Worthing.

Sussex Police are urging anyone who saw the chase or has been a victim of moped theft or snatch crimes to come forward.
