Major Police Raids Target Organised Crime in London and Essex
On Wednesday, 19 May, the Met’s East Area Command led a huge crackdown on a suspected organised crime gang operating between London and Lincolnshire. Months of intelligence gathering paid off as officers from the Met, British Transport Police, and Essex Police swooped on several locations. The aim? To smash drug networks and seize illegal weapons.

The biggest action came at a commercial container yard in 123, a man and a woman were snapped up at one residence, with a third man arrested at a separate address. Searches are ongoing, with police digging deeper into this criminal web.
Det Sgt Owen Morgan, leading the Met’s East Area Drugs Focus Desk, said: “There’s an undeniable link between drugs and violence, and it’s crucial we continue to act on this. Disrupting drug supply remains at the heart of our efforts to tackle street violence.”
“This operation not only hits criminals using lock-ups to store illegal goods but provides a treasure trove of intelligence we will follow up thoroughly.”
“Together with partners, we aim to protect children and vulnerable adults by targeting those masterminding drug distribution, who exploit others to do their dirty work.”
“County lines isn’t just about drug dealing — it devastates communities and ruins lives, especially families of youngsters tricked into becoming runners. They’re promised easy cash and status but end up trapped in a violent nightmare.”
“We will keep working with policing teams across the country to dismantle organised crime networks for good.”
