Explosion Rocks London Hotel Shelter for Homeless
A small explosion tore through a first-floor room in a London hotel, currently sheltering homeless people. The blast, believed to be caused by a small gas cylinder, damaged part of the room but caused no major structural harm.
100 Evacuated Before Fire Brigade Arrived
Around 100 occupants fled the building before firefighters showed up. One man was rushed to hospital by ambulance crews after the incident.
Firefighters Conduct Safety Sweep
Firefighters arrived at the scene at 1:44am wearing breathing apparatus. They carried out a thorough search to make sure no one was left trapped or injured inside. The all-clear was given at 5:22am.
Investigation Underway
Crews from Peckham, New Cross, Old Kent Road, and Brixton fire stations tackled the scene. The Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police are now probing the cause of the explosion.
