Woman Killed After Being Hit by Range Rover on Reading’s Inner Distribution Road
A woman has tragically died after being struck by a white Range Rover on Reading’s busy Inner Distribution Road (IDR) in the early hours of Saturday morning. The road was closed for several hours while emergency crews worked the scene.
Taxi Driver’s Near Miss Before Fatal Collision
A taxi driver, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed he had to swerve sharply to avoid hitting the same woman moments before the fatal crash. The woman, aged around 35-40 and wearing a large coat, was seen walking in a lane on the IDR near Queen Road just before 1am. The driver said she appeared to be intoxicated at the time.
Passersby and Taxi Drivers Tried Desperately to Save Her
After the collision, several bystanders and another taxi driver rushed to help. One motorist performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation at the roadside while others tried to stabilise the woman before emergency services arrived.
“She was in a very bad way. Lots of motorists stopped to help. Two people put her on her back while another gave her mouth to mouth,” the taxi driver said.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Despite the efforts, the woman died at the scene. Thames Valley Police conducted hours of investigations before reopening the road shortly after 4am, with the Range Rover removed on a flatbed truck.
Officers are now urgently asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information to contact the Thames Valley Police Joint Operations Unit on 101.
