Glastonbury 2020 CANCELLED Amid Coronavirus Chaos
The iconic Glastonbury Festival, set to mark its 50th anniversary with headliners like Taylor Swift, Paul McCartney, and Kendrick Lamar, has been axed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“We are so sorry to announce this, but Glastonbury 2020 will have to be cancelled, and this will be an enforced fallow year for the Festival,” organisers said.
Government Rules Force The Cancel
This isn’t the news fans or organisers wanted. But with the latest government restrictions and overwhelming uncertainty, cancelling is the only option. Even if the situation improves by June, the festival can’t get its huge crew and infrastructure ready in time for more than 200,000 attendees.
Ticket Holders: Roll Over or Refund
The organisers apologised to the 135,000 people who’d already paid deposits for 2020 tickets. Final payments were due in April, so they needed to decide now.
- Ticket holders can roll their £50 deposit to 2021, securing their chance to buy next year.
- If they want, a refund will be available through See Tickets soon.
- This choice stays open until September, with rollover happening automatically for those who do nothing.
Devastating Blow to Festival Community
The cancellation is a huge hit not only for the festival crew and volunteers but also local suppliers, traders, and landowners who rely on the event. The organisers revealed they were proud of the star-studded line-up booked for the golden anniversary.
“Again, we’re so sorry that this decision has been made. It was not through choice. But we look forward to welcoming you back next year and send our love and support to all of you.”
More info on coach packages, accommodation, and local tickets will hit the official website soon. For now, the festival is dark—but hopes to roar back to life in 2021.
