Deadly Fire Tears Through Croydon Home
Emergency services raced to a devastating fire on Sutherland Road, Croydon, just after 10:40am on Saturday 27 March 2021. Six fire crews, an aerial ladder, police, paramedics, and the London air ambulance battled a ferocious blaze at a semi-detached house.
The fire gutted the property, leaving windows blackened and blown out. Despite heroic efforts, a 57-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Community in Shock as Investigation Underway
Plastic blue tarps now cover parts of the house and street as the Met Police and Fire Investigation Officers launch a joint probe. Road closures remain in effect to aid the ongoing inquiry.
A local resident, speaking anonymously, said the community was “deeply saddened” by the tragedy. “Several young children from the house attend my daughter’s school. I hope they are alright,” she added.
Police Confirm Details of Fatal Fire
A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at approximately 11:10am on Saturday 27 March to reports of a fire at a residential property in Sutherland Road, Croydon. Officers attended alongside colleagues from the London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service, and the Helicopter Emergency Medical Services.”
“A 57-year-old woman was later pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries into the circumstances continue.”
