Man Falls Sick After Contact with Mysterious Substance in Salisbury

Emergency crews launched a major operation on Friday evening after a man suddenly fell ill from an “unknown substance” in Durrington, near Salisbury. The alarming incident unfolded at around 5pm on Charles Road, prompting a swift and serious response from fire, ambulance, and police teams across Hampshire, Wiltshire, and Avon.

Hazmat Teams and Specialist Units Swarm the Scene

Wiltshire Police confirmed the man became unwell after exposure to the mysterious material. His condition remains unclear. Authorities immediately sealed off the area and told nearby residents to stay indoors as a precaution.

The response was formidable:

  • Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance scrambled
  • Local ambulance crews deployed
  • Three Hazardous Area Response Team units from Bristol arrived
  • About ten fire engines operated, including crews from Hampshire and the Isle of Wight

Eyewitnesses described emergency workers entering the property in full hazmat suits and breathing apparatus. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers were positioned at a nearby school acting as a command post.

Police Urge Public to Avoid the Area

“We are currently in attendance with Fire and Ambulance services at an address in Charles Road, Durrington, following a report of a man falling ill after coming into contact with an unknown substance,” said a Wiltshire Police spokesperson.

“There is not thought to be any threat to the wider public at this stage. However, a cordon has been put in place as a precaution. Members of the public are asked to stay away from the area. We will provide further updates in due course.”

Charles Road remains closed both ways under police guard. Locals are anxious and confused, with many following official advice to avoid the scene and stay safely indoors.
