Man Shot Dead by Police at Milton Keynes Station After Knife Attack

Knife-Wielding Man Fatally Shot by Armed Police

A man was shot dead by police at Milton Keynes railway station after charging officers with a knife. The drama unfolded just before 1pm on Tuesday, April 1, when Thames Valley Police (TVP) and British Transport Police (BTP) rushed to the busy station following reports of an armed man.

Initially thought to be carrying a firearm, officers quickly realised the man was wielding a knife instead. TVP confirmed the man “moved at speed towards officers with the knife” before shots were fired. Paramedics tried life-saving efforts at the scene, but he was declared dead at 1:44pm. His identity has not been released, and next of kin are being informed.

Witnesses Describe Chaotic Scene

Local eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud bang, which some mistook for a dropped object rather than a gunshot. Alan Brockbank, a resident nearby, said there was a heavy police presence with armed officers securing the area. He saw attempts to resuscitate the man outside the station.

Another witness described chaos as police urged people to move back while paramedics worked. The station was cordoned off, causing massive disruption to train services and commuter travel.

Police Reassure Public; Community Reacts

Thames Valley Police insisted there is no ongoing threat to the public. Chief Superintendent Emma Baillie, Milton Keynes Commander, said: “We understand this incident may cause concern, but we reassure the community there is no wider risk to the public.

Milton Keynes Conservative Leader Councillor Shazna Muzammil expressed shock but praised police and emergency teams for their swift and professional response.

IOPC Launches Independent Investigation

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has opened a formal probe into the shooting, sending investigators to the scene shortly after 2:26pm.

“Our role is to independently examine all circumstances surrounding this incident, including police actions and decisions,” an IOPC spokesperson said.

The station has now reopened with increased police patrols. Both TVP and BTP urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has video footage to come forward.
