Three Suspects on the Run After £14k Cash Grab in Bitterne, Southampton
Police launch urgent manhunt after daring cash-in-transit heist in Bitterne precinct. Early this morning, a gang of three snatched £14,000 from a cash-in-transit driver before sprinting off into the night.
Robbery Strikes at 1am
The victim, a 63-year-old delivery driver, was on foot heading to a local bank at around 1am on Wednesday, 25 May when three men in dark tracksuits attacked. They seized the cash box he was carrying and escaped on foot. Thankfully, the driver was unharmed.
Abandoned Volvo Fuels Police Hunt
Shortly after the robbery, police found a dark-coloured Volvo abandoned on Hillgrove Road — believed to be the getaway vehicle. The cash box was later dumped in nearby Rowlands Walk.
Police Appeal for Eyewitnesses
Detective Inspector James Stewart said: “We know this was late at night but we urge anyone in Bitterne precinct, Hillgrove Road, or Rowlands Walk around that time who saw or heard anything suspicious to get in touch.”
“We remind those working with cash to stay vigilant and report anyone acting strangely. Local businesses have been contacted to keep staff alert, but not alarmed.”
“If you saw a dark-coloured Volvo driving in the area before or after 1am, please call 101 quoting incident 44160194711.”
The search for the trio is ongoing. Police ask witnesses to come forward to help crack this bold robbery.
