Kent Police Reveal Shocking Rise in Male Domestic Abuse Victims

More than 54,000 men have reported domestic abuse to Kent Police over the last six years. That’s a staggering third of all abuse reports in the county.

This year alone, Kent Police have received 24,037 domestic abuse reports – with 6,579 involving male victims. And experts warn these numbers could be just the tip of the iceberg.

Abuse Isn’t Just Physical – And Everyone Is At Risk

Domestic abuse isn’t limited to bruises and black eyes. Verbal threats, financial control, and coercive behaviour also count – and none of it is acceptable.

Kent Police stress abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, age, race, or background. Men, in particular, often suffer in silence.

New Domestic Abuse Hub Offers Rapid Support For Victims

To tackle this, Kent Police have launched a dedicated Domestic Abuse Hub. It uses cutting-edge video technology, letting victims speak face-to-face with officers immediately. That means incidents are recorded fast, evidence is gathered, and urgent safeguarding is put in place.

The hub also links victims straight to partner agencies and charities, offering a lifeline to those trapped in abusive situations.

‘Men: You’re Not Alone’ – Police Chief Pleads for Courage

Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Banks said: “Talking about domestic abuse is tough. But we encourage all victims to come forward – especially men, who often suffer in silence.”

“Reports involving male victims will be handled sensitively. We work with charities to provide extra support, including help with housing and child access issues.”

“Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of victims. We prosecute offenders but focus on achieving the best results for those suffering abuse.”
