Met Chief Joins Dawn Raids in North London Crime Crackdown
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick led officers on early morning raids targeting violent robbers and burglars across north London. Three men were arrested in Camden as part of a major operation aimed at tackling a spate of high-value thefts.
Three Arrested in Camden Burglary Bust
On Tuesday, 7 April, police executed warrants at three Camden properties, arresting a 24-year-old and two 29-year-olds on suspicion of burglary. The targeted suspects are linked to a series of violent crimes stretching back four months, involving robberies of luxury watches and safes stuffed with pricey jewellery.
The investigation spans several London boroughs, with detectives from Camden, Islington, Enfield, Haringey, Brent, Barnet, and Harrow BCUs working alongside the elite Flying Squad to bring the offenders to justice.
Violent Gang Targeted High-Value Swag
The suspects often threatened victims with weapons such as knives, batons, hammers, and axes. Their audacity peaked with a dramatic break-in at a vacant Barnet property in November 2019, where they ripped a safe from the wall and threw it through a window before making off with thousands of pounds worth of jewellery.
Commissioner Dick praised the operation, saying:
“Even during this hugely challenging time, the Met remains utterly committed to providing an excellent service to London. We will continue to serve our communities and focus on our number one priority – reducing violent crime.”
“This investigation shows how officers across the Met work together to catch those committing dangerous crimes and protect the public. Operations like these run every day across London.”
“The Met is a resilient organisation, ready to meet the challenges posed by Coronavirus while keeping Londoners safe.”
Met Pledges Ongoing Fight Against Crime
Commissioner Dick reassured Londoners that despite the pandemic, the police remain vigilant and dedicated. Officers and staff continue to work tirelessly to arrest criminals and prevent Londoners from becoming victims.
She added her thanks to the public and partners for their support during these unprecedented times, commending the force’s ongoing commitment to keeping the capital safe.
