Trapped residents forced to leap from burning building
Witnesses told of the desperate scenes as residents trapped by the inferno jumped from windows to escape the flames.
“It started mostly on the balcony and then spread rapidly. I saw people jumping out the windows from the top balcony. They had a mattress laid out below, trying to catch those jumping, but some couldn’t make it,” said one horrified onlooker.
Another eyewitness added, “I was just walking past before the fire brigade arrived when I saw someone leap from a second-floor window. It was a shocking sight I never expected to see. I really hope he’s okay after that thud on the ground.”
