Murder Probe Launched After Inmate Stabbed at HMP Dovegate
A murder investigation is underway following the stabbing death of a prisoner at HMP Dovegate, a Category B jail near Uttoxeter housing inmates from Stoke-on-Trent and surrounding areas.
42-Year-Old Victim Dies After Morning Attack
The attack happened just after 9am on Saturday, July 13. Police rushed to the scene after reports of a stabbing inside the prison. The 42-year-old male inmate was taken to hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries.
Suspect Arrested and Released on Bail
Staffordshire Police have arrested a 46-year-old prisoner on suspicion of murder. The man has since been released on bail as officers continue their investigation.
A police spokesman said: “Specially-trained officers are supporting the victim’s family during this difficult time.”
Serco Confirms Death, Police Lead Inquiry
HMP Dovegate is run by Serco and holds 1,060 male inmates aged over 21. A Serco representative said: “We can confirm the death of a 42-year-old man at HMP Dovegate. Police are currently investigating the matter.”
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to uncover more details about the fatal stabbing inside the prison walls.
