Cop Punched Unconscious in Shocking Newhaven Assault
A police officer was hospitalised after a brutal assault while answering a 999 call in Newhaven, East Sussex. The violent attack unfolded on Tuesday evening, raising serious safety concerns for officers on duty.
Violent Resistance on the Beat
Sussex Police say the officer and two colleagues responded to a disturbance just after 7pm on March 19. Upon arrival, they faced a man who launched a savage attack, assaulting three officers in total.
One officer was punched so hard in the face she briefly lost consciousness. Despite the ferocity, the team managed to subdue the suspect using Tasers, highlighting the dangerous situations police routinely battle.
Officer Hospitalised but Fighting Fit
The injured officer needed immediate hospital treatment but has since been discharged. Her two colleagues suffered injuries but did not require hospitalisation.
East Sussex Divisional Superintendent Rachel Swinney condemned the assault. “This was shocking and completely unacceptable,” she said. “One of my colleagues was injured while protecting the public. Assaults on officers will never be tolerated.”
Community & Force Feel the Impact
The incident affects more than just the injured officers—it impacts families, friends, and the wider community. The absence of officers strains the force’s ability to respond to other emergencies.
A 20-year-old man has been arrested and remains in custody. Sussex Police vow to pursue justice and keep both officers and the public safe.
This shocking attack serves as a stark reminder of the daily dangers police face and the urgent need for respect and support from the community.
