Tributes pour in after Nikki Bulley’s tragic body found in Lancashire river

‘Bring Nikki Back Home’ campaign heartbreak

Louise Cunningham, 41, who led the passionate ‘Bring Nikki Back Home’ social media campaign, shared a poignant yellow heart on Facebook in memory of her late sister. Friends and her former Essex school joined in, urging everyone to spread love for Nikki Bulley.

Mother-of-two found after weeks missing

Nicola “Nikki” Bulley’s body was discovered in the reeds of the River Wyre, Lancashire, on Sunday. The mum had gone missing on January 27 after taking her two young daughters—aged six and nine—to school in St Michael’s on Wyre and walking her dog.

Community and friends in mourning

Emma White, a close friend, spoke for “Team Nikki,” saying:

“After 24 days of hoping and working to bring Nikki home, we were sadly informed that Nikki had been found in the river, which none of us wanted to hear. While our hearts are broken, we will continue to support the family.”

Her former secondary school in Essex also paid heartfelt tribute, recognising the former student who moved north in the late 1990s with her family:

“Our hearts go out to Nicola’s family and friends, many of whom live in our own South Woodham Ferrers community. At this difficult time, we would like to respect the family’s privacy.”

Police silence and social media chaos

Lancashire Police confirmed Nikki’s identity at a Monday press briefing but faced backlash. They offered no explanation for why it took 23 days to find her body or why details of her private life were leaked.

The body, found near a fallen tree by a man and woman who called police, lay half-submerged in undergrowth on a remote stretch of the river. A police cordon and divers were involved in the recovery.

Meanwhile, social media has exploded with conspiracy theories and speculation, prompting TikTok to step in. The platform vowed to act against “ghoulish” amateur sleuths who disrupted the search and spread distressing content. TikTok stated:

“We are enforcing our Community Guidelines by removing content and accounts and limiting the reach of some content by making it ineligible for recommendation. Our thoughts are with Ms Bulley’s family and friends at this difficult time.”

Locals slammed the nasty “ghouls” who descended on the quiet Lancashire village, turning Nikki’s tragic disappearance into a social media circus.
