Met Police Clear Themselves Over Caroline Flack Death
The Metropolitan Police Service made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) on Wednesday, 19 February. This followed a full review of all police contacts with Caroline Flack before her tragic death.
IOPC Rules Out Police Involvement
The referral is standard whenever someone dies or suffers serious injury after recent police contact. The IOPC independently examined the case and told the Met and Caroline Flack’s family that no formal investigation is needed.
“The IOPC does not consider it reasonable or proportionate to suggest officer involvement caused or contributed to Ms Flack’s death based on the evidence provided,” the watchdog said.
Met’s Internal Probe Finds No Misconduct
The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) reviewed everything and concluded no formal police investigation is necessary. No officer misconduct was found at any stage.
The DPS stressed that the extensive review covered all police dealings with Flack following her arrest and detention. Should any fresh evidence emerge, the Met will act promptly.
Met Cooperates Fully with Coroner
The Metropolitan Police say they continue to cooperate fully with the coroner’s office. The case remains under ongoing scrutiny to ensure all facts are accounted for.
