Late-Night Break-In Foiled at Gooseberry Bush Pub
Police swooped on the Gooseberry Bush in Peel Street just after 2am on Tuesday, 18 July, after the pub’s alarm sparked into action.
Suspect Caught Red-Handed Climbing Out
Officers spotted a man inside and found a back window forced open. As they approached, the culprit tried to escape by climbing out the window—only to be promptly detained and arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Burglary Tools and £200 Worth of Booze Seized
Police recovered a bag packed with burglary tools including plyers and Allen keys. Inside were nine bottles of spirits—whiskey, rum, and vodka—valued at over £200.
Sergeant Praises Swift Police Response
“Officers treat every report of burglary, business or home, extremely seriously as we know the immense impact this crime has on victims,” said Sergeant Simon Lacey.
“We were on the scene within minutes and managed to detain a 43-year-old man and arrest him on suspicion of burglary.”
“We also returned the stolen bottles to the pub, stopping the thieves from making off with a hefty haul.”
