Police Crack Down on Rogue Drivers in Basingstoke

On Sunday, December 11, Basingstoke police launched a major operation targeting illegal and anti-social driving. Officers checked over 20 vehicles across the town, cracking down hard on offenders.

Three Cars Seized and Multiple Offences Caught

  • Three vehicles were seized for having no insurance.
  • One car was pulled for bald tyres and banned from the road.
  • A driver was stopped without a licence.
  • Another vehicle was caught tax-free.
  • Two motorists were fined for not wearing seatbelts.
  • Police spotted two cars with illegal tinted windows — owners removed tints on the spot.
  • A small amount of cannabis was seized with the user dealt with by community resolution.
  • A 27-year-old man was arrested over an immigration offence.

Operation Targets Illegal Car Meets at Leisure Park

About 30 drivers congregated at the Leisure Park on Euskirchen Way. Police engaged with them, offering advice on vehicle modifications and gathering intelligence. S59 warnings—issued for vehicles causing alarm or annoyance—may be handed out soon. Persistent offenders face vehicle seizure on repeat stops.

Police and Officials Vow to Tackle Anti-Social Driving

“I’m pleased with the results of last night’s operation and glad our presence is having a positive impact,” said Chief Inspector Scott Johnson, District Commander for Basingstoke. “Anti-social behaviour linked to unauthorised car meets is a serious concern. We take reports seriously and won’t tolerate this in Basingstoke.”

Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones added: “This is a great example of police, councils and public working together to crack down on dangerous and illegal vehicle use. These meets cause serious community concerns. I’m pleased police are taking strong action to warn and catch lawbreakers.”
