Dawn Raids Target Rising Crime in Colchester

The swoops come amid a spike in violent offences in Colchester town centre, which surged after coronavirus restrictions lifted earlier this year and the nightlife scene reopened. Police seized a hefty stash of suspected Class A and B drugs along with over £20,000 in cash.

Two Men Arrested Over Brutal Attack

Among those arrested are two local men aged 31 and 24, held on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. Their arrest links to a savage assault on a man in Shrub End Road on September 9.

All detainees remain in custody as police continue questioning.

Police Vow Tough Stance on Drug Dealers

“We make no apologies for taking an uncompromising approach to tackling the supply of drugs in Essex,” said Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford.

“There are those who believe they can sell their products on our streets. We won’t accept it. Our specialist officers work tirelessly to build strong cases, push people before the courts, and secure convictions.”

“This operation shows how multiple teams can come together with one goal – to keep residents safe and wipe drugs off our streets.”
