A harrowing rescue unfolded off the Sussex coast as a boat reportedly sank in the English Channel near Shoreham in the early hours of Sunday, August 6. One man survived, but tragically another was found dead, while two others remain missing as the search continues.
Survivor Found Clinging to Buoy
The sole survivor, a 45-year-old Londoner, was discovered just after dawn by commercial fishermen about two miles west of Shoreham Harbour. Clinging to a buoy, he was rescued by the RNLI lifeboat and rushed to hospital.
Major Rescue Operation Underway
HM Coastguard launched a major search effort with Sussex Police scouring beaches between Brighton and Worthing. Rescue teams recovered the body of a man from the sea at around 8.15am, bringing it ashore by Coastguard helicopter.
Two Still Missing, Investigation Ongoing
Authorities continue the desperate search for two others believed to have been on the ill-fated boat. An investigation with the Marine Accident Investigation Branch is underway to uncover how the men ended up in the water.
