Parish Councillor James Nash Shot in Upper Enham Drama
A 42-year-old man, identified locally as Parish Councillor James Nash, was rushed to Southampton General Hospital after being shot at a home on MacCallum Road, Upper Enham, Andover, at around 3pm yesterday.
Armed Police Pursue Motorcyclist Who Later Dies
Armed response officers swooped on the scene and chased a motorcyclist linked to the shooting after he failed to stop. The pursuit ended in tragedy when the rider crashed on the A343 near Hurstbourne Tarrant, dying at the scene.
The Air Ambulance and National Police Air Support (NPAS) were also involved in the operation.
Police Investigation and Road Closures Ongoing
MacCallum Road remains sealed off with police barriers and a cordon as detectives dig deeper into the shooting. Additional police activity and another cordon near Junction Road and Andover Train Station are being investigated for links to the incident.
Both marked and unmarked armed police vehicles left the scene early this morning under escort for further examination.
Police Statement and Independent Inquiry Launched
“We have launched an investigation after a man was shot this afternoon (Wednesday, August 5) in Upper Enham near Andover shortly after 3pm,” said Hampshire Police.
“Officers responded to a report of an assault at an address on MacCallum Road. The 42-year-old victim suffered serious injuries and is now receiving treatment at Southampton General Hospital.
“A motorcycle connected to this incident failed to stop for officers, leading to a crash on the A343 near Hurstbourne Tarrant, where the motorcyclist died at the scene.
“A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). Armed police were also seen at an address in Enham Alamein as part of the investigation.”
