Tragic Accident at Isle of Dogs DLR

A passenger has died three weeks after suffering a serious head injury from a fall at Island Gardens DLR station, British Transport Police (BTP) have confirmed.

Emergency services rushed to the Isle of Dogs station just before 5:30pm on December 11 following reports of a passenger tumbling down the stairs. The victim was taken to hospital but sadly passed away on January 3.

Investigation Underway – No Suspicion

A BTP spokesperson said the incident is not being treated as suspicious. A file is now being prepared for the coroner to review the circumstances surrounding the fatal fall.

TfL Vows to Tackle Transport Deaths and Injuries

This heartbreaking incident was first disclosed in documents from a Transport for London (TfL) board meeting held on February 5.

TfL stressed that safety is their top priority and reaffirmed their target to eliminate all deaths and serious injuries on London’s transport network by 2041. They also aim to have zero fatalities on or caused by London buses by 2030.

Other Recent Tragedies on London Transport

The TfL report also highlighted several other fatal incidents across the city’s transport system:

  • December 4: An Elizabeth line staff member died after an assault at Ilford station.
  • December 14: A cyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a bus on Streatham Hill and died two weeks later in hospital.
  • December 28: A passenger fell inside a moving bus on Finchley Road and later died in hospital.
  • November 23: A cyclist was killed in a crash with a bus on Westferry Road, Isle of Dogs.
