Shopper Hospitalised After Car Hits Pedestrian Outside Ryde Store
A shopper was rushed to hospital with non life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car outside the Edinburgh Woollen Mill on Garfield Road, Ryde, today at lunchtime.
Driver Claims Brakes Failed Before Crash
Eyewitnesses reported hearing the driver of a VW Touran shout, “my brakes have failed,” moments before the vehicle mounted the pavement and hit the pedestrian.
Emergency Services Respond Quickly
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service confirmed they were called just after 12.20pm. “We attended with a Rapid Response Vehicle and an Emergency Ambulance,” said a spokesperson. “An adult was taken to St Mary’s Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.”
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police also confirmed their attendance at the collision around 12.20pm today. A spokesperson urged anyone who saw the incident to get in touch. “Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Hampshire Police on 101.”
