A shopper was rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car outside the Edinburgh Woollen Mill on Garfield Road, Ryde, this lunchtime.
Driver Claims Brakes Failed Before Crash
Eyewitnesses say the driver of a VW Touran shouted, “My brakes have failed,” before the car mounted the pavement and struck the pedestrian. The shocking incident happened just after 12:20pm today.
Emergency Services Rush Victim to Hospital
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service responded quickly, sending a Rapid Response Vehicle and Emergency Ambulance. A spokesperson confirmed, “An adult has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police confirmed their attendance at the scene and said:
“A VW Touran and a pedestrian were involved in the collision. The pedestrian was taken to hospital. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Hampshire Police on 101.”
