Pedestrian Seriously Injured After Collision with Fire Engine in Worthing
A pedestrian has been rushed to hospital after being hit by a fire engine responding to an emergency call in Worthing, West Sussex.
Accident at Busy Dual Carriageway
The victim was struck by the front of the fire appliance near Worthing, smashing the vehicle’s front glass. It’s believed the pedestrian was attempting to cross the busy A259 dual carriageway at the time.
Emergency Services Close Road, Investigation Underway
West Sussex Roads Policing officers shut down both sides of Littlehampton Road near Worthing College shortly after 2pm on Thursday, June 29, 2017. Collision investigators are carrying out a detailed search of the crash scene.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “Emergency services are at the scene of a collision involving a pedestrian and a fire engine at the Goring Crossways roundabout on Thursday at 2.10pm. The pedestrian has been taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, with a head injury. The road is closed in both directions and motorists are advised to avoid the area.”
West Sussex Fire and Rescue added: “We are in close contact with police and ambulance services. We are naturally concerned for the pedestrian and our staff involved, but cannot comment further while investigations continue.”
Motorists are warned the A259 remains closed for several hours as emergency crews work at the scene.
