A man in his 20s was hospitalised with serious injuries after being hit by a lorry on the A5199 Welford Road, close to the River Sence, on the outskirts of Harborough. The smash happened in the early hours of Friday, January 17, 2025.
Lorry Driver Arrested on Dangerous Driving and Drug Charges
Emergency services rushed to the scene just before 6:30am. The young pedestrian was rushed to hospital for urgent treatment.
The lorry driver, a 53-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and for driving with illegal drug levels in his system. He remains in police custody as the investigation ramps up.
Police Appeal for Crucial Witness Info
Detective Constable Paul Hicks is hunting for witnesses and dashcam footage. He pleaded:
“I’m particularly keen to speak to other motorists with a dashcam or anyone who saw the collision. I’d also ask anyone who saw either the lorry or pedestrian prior to the incident to make contact.”
