Nottingham Students Get VIP Access with Pegasus Police Card

Learning the Ropes with the Pegasus Card

Last Wednesday, Nottingham Mencap students dropped in to discover the Pegasus card — a game-changer designed to help those who struggle to communicate with police in tough situations.

After a step-by-step guide on how to apply, the students had a one-on-one with Chief Constable Kate Meynell, who emphasised the force’s commitment to being accessible for everyone.

Pegasus Card Relaunch Aims to Break Barriers

Nottinghamshire Police recently relaunched the Pegasus card scheme to protect people with disabilities or illnesses that make communication tricky. Instead of struggling to explain themselves under pressure, cardholders just say “Pegasus” and provide a unique PIN. That unlocks vital info for officers straight from a secure database.

The best part? Registration is completely free via the Nottinghamshire Police website for anyone who qualifies.

Support from Nottingham Mencap and Police

Karen Aspley from Nottingham Mencap said:

“It’s crucial people with learning disabilities feel confident reporting crimes and reaching out to the police when something is wrong. The Pegasus card makes sure officers know who they’re dealing with and their needs — no endless explanations during stressful moments.

“Many we support think very literally, so visiting the police control room and seeing a live demo really boosts their confidence to call for help when needed.”

Sophie Barker, first contact manager at Nottinghamshire Police, added:

“The police service is for everyone. We must make ourselves accessible to those who need us most. The Pegasus card is a powerful tool, and I urge anyone who could benefit to apply now via our website.”
