Six fire engines have been deployed as crews race to control the flames. Eyewitnesses report a strong smell of burning rubber and say visibility on the street is near zero. One local said, “You literally could not see anything up or down the street — no houses and no people.”

A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson warned: “We currently have six crews in attendance at a large fire on Westport Road, in Burslem. Please avoid this area while we deal with this incident.” The fire, which broke out early on Saturday evening (27 April), has caused major disruption to the surrounding area.
