Tragic Night in Leigh: Teen Girl Murdered Near Home
On December 8, 1984, Lisa was walking home from a party when she was attacked in a nearby alleyway off Bonnywell Road. She was sexually assaulted and strangled to death, just 200 yards from her house.
Lisa’s mum, Christine, reported her missing at 10:45 pm after she failed to come home by 10:30 pm. Sadly, Lisa’s body was found shortly before midnight behind Rugby Road by a member of the public.
Cold Case Continues Despite Advances in Forensics
Decades on, the case remains unsolved, despite modern DNA techniques. Police secured a DNA sample but have yet to find a match to nail the killer. Christine, devastated, died in 2016 without ever learning who murdered her daughter.
“Lisa had her whole life ahead of her, and somebody took that away. Her mother never got to see her grow up and died without answers.” – Martin Bottomley, Head of GMP Cold Case Unit
