Woman Cyclist Punched in Broad Daylight in Birmingham

West Midlands Police have launched a desperate appeal after a female cyclist was punched in the face during an unprovoked attack in Birmingham city centre last November.

Blow at Busy City Junction

The shocking assault happened on Monday, November 25, 2024, between 4:00 PM and 4:40 PM at the busy junction of Bristol Street and Belgrave Middleway. This area is a hive of activity with steady traffic, cyclists, and pedestrians.

The victim was stationary at the traffic lights when a man on foot suddenly approached and threw a punch to the right side of her face, leaving visible redness and swelling. Without hesitation, the attacker fled the scene.

Police Hunt Mystery Attacker

Despite exhaustive CCTV reviews and investigations, the suspect remains unidentified. West Midlands Police are treating it as a serious assault and urgently want witnesses to come forward.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the assault or who recognises the suspect to contact us as soon as possible,” a police spokesperson said.

Cyclists and Locals Demand Action

The brazen daylight attack has sparked alarm about cyclist safety in the city. Campaigners call for more police patrols and enhanced surveillance on busy routes like Belgrave Middleway.

One local commuter, who cycles this route daily, said: “It’s shocking. You’d expect this kind of attack at night, not in broad daylight with cars and people everywhere.”

Ongoing Investigation Seeks Public Help

Police continue sifting through CCTV and appeal for any dashcam footage from the area at that time. The public’s help could prove crucial to catching the culprit.
