Man, 27, Dies in Horror Crash with Police Car on A259
A tragic collision unfolded just after 11.10pm on Saturday, April 30, when a 27-year-old man crashed into a marked police vehicle near Dorothy Avenue.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
Paramedics arrived swiftly but despite their best efforts, the man died at the scene from serious injuries sustained in the crash. The drama caused chaos as a section of the A259 South Coast Road was shut down in both directions.
Independent Probe Launched
Because a police vehicle was involved, the case has been handed to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for a full and impartial investigation.
Road Closures and Updates
- A259 South Coast Road has now re-opened after the investigation.
- However, the junction with Bramber Avenue remains closed as inquiries continue.
Chief Superintendent Jo Banks said: “This is a tragic incident and we are fully supporting the IOPC investigation. We want to thank drivers and residents for their patience while the A259 South Coast Road was closed.”
