After a sunny and dry Easter weekend, brace yourself – the weather is about to take a wild turn!
Storm clouds gather as high pressure moves east
The glorious high pressure that kept much of the UK fine and dry is packing up and heading east. In its place, a blustery Atlantic wind will sweep in from the west, bringing spells of rain and gusty winds.
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly warned: “A change is on the way from Sunday afternoon. Northern Ireland and Scotland will see blustery showers overnight and into Monday. Elsewhere, expect a cloudy Sunday with rain creeping in over Wales and southwest England by evening.”
Wet and wild week ahead
The soggy, windy weather isn’t just a one-day drama. Frontal systems will continue Monday and Tuesday, drenching large parts of the UK.
Things could get even nastier by midweek as a low-pressure beast forms in the Atlantic, ready to unleash heavy rain and furious winds.
Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates said: “This low could bring disruptive winds of 60-70 mph in exposed coastal and upland areas, with 30-40mm of rain possible. There may even be some snow on high ground in northern regions.”
He added: “Warnings could be needed once we know the exact path of the storm, but expect large waves along western and southern coasts as well.”
Storm to move east by Thursday
The low-pressure system is expected to drift into the North Sea late Wednesday and Thursday. However, more wind and rain could follow later in the week, so don’t put away your brollies just yet!
